Blogaversary Giveaway with ABJ Glassworks

Kitty & Buck is turning one! To celebrate, I have collected a very special group of creative people together for giveaways throughout the entire month of February. I wanted to celebrate with you by selecting giveaway items from people who I have gotten to know over the past 12 months, thanks to Kitty & Buck. I am so thankful for the people I've met through my blog, thanks for your support over the past 12 months, I've had a blast getting to know you!

My first giveaway is from the lovely Ashley, of ABJ Glassworks. I featured one of her terrariums waaay back in Found #8! Ever since then, we've been in touch and I love her work more than ever. Ashley lives and works in beautiful Philadelphia and creates the most incredible glass planters, boxes, ornaments and more. One very lucky winner has the opportunity to score a $50 voucher to spend in ABJ Glassworks! I'll probably repeat myself in the coming giveaways, but Ashley works really hard to create these beautiful pieces, if you don't win, you should consider supporting her handmade goodness. I have my eyes on the pyramid box below, or a teardrop terrarium. As soon as I finish painting, installing shelves and lighting how I want it, these are first on my list for the finishing touches in my home.

What I Wore - Bladerunner - Like Tears In Rain

We've had a busy week of shows and events, two of them at the lovely Sydney Opera House. On Sunday evening, it was Dead Can Dance, Lisa Gerrard's vocal skills did not disappoint, her voice is incredible. Her unconventional tones combined with the cacophony of drums and delightful sounds of her dulcimer and Brendan's sitar sent me to a happy place.

We shot these pictures after listening to the Sydney Symphony Orchestra perform the Zelda Symphony. Yes, you read that correctly. There is a Zelda Symphony. I believe it was the first time it was played in Australia and it was an awesome all-out geek-fest. I love Zelda, and music, so this was so much fun. Also, as an added bonus, a friend from high school, who I had not seen since, was up on stage playing violin. I felt like a proud sister, she worked so hard on her violin practice all through school and is now playing in the Sydney Symphony!

After our heatwave, it's been cold and rainy, so I had the perfect excuse to bring out my extra-special umbrella that was a gift for Christmas. I love the film Bladerunner and C managed to score me a replica of the umbrellas that people (and replicants) use in Syd Mead's vision of the future.

The other performance we witnessed was Bat For Lashes, I already had a deep admiration for Natasha Khan and she did not disappoint. Her voice, dance moves and rainbow cape captured my heart as I danced along to her beautiful music. What a week huh? I still have some shows lined up in the coming month including Godspeed You! Black Emperor and Cat Power.

I really wanted to tell you of my love for Bladerunner, Dystopian visions of the future and Deckard. Another time perhaps.

February Blogaversary - A Month of Giveaways!

Well hi there! I thought I'd let you in on my little February Blogaversary project, so you can get excited along with me. At the end of February, I will have been blogging for one year. I wanted to celebrate with you to say thank you for sticking with me and reading my random thoughts and looking at my pictures. So, I've organised some very exciting giveaways for you! I decided that to make this a truly special event, I wanted to make it meaningful.

I've made so many new friends during this period of blogging, and I'm really thankful that my blog has allowed new people into my life. I've also met a lot of passionate small and handmade business owners,  who I'm sure I wouldn't have met without Kitty & Buck. I've teamed up with four special businesses to offer an awesome giveaway each week during February. The first one is this Wednesday, so be sure to check back and join in the celebrations.

I don't want to make a huge deal about making to a year, despite the fact I am surprised at myself and proud of what I've managed to achieve (even when I do get frustrated at not being better - stupid perfectionism). Far more important are the new friendships and connections I've made all over the world. I am so grateful to all of the lovely people who stop by here every day and the friends I've made.

I love vintage posters, the colours, the illustration... There is a selection of travel posters on creative.org, I think this one is my favourite. As if Austria wasn't already appealing enough! Look at those mountains, the lake, the train, the pine forests... ahhh.

I love jewellery that I can play with, something to keep my hands occupied when I'm nervous or bored, or both! This Kaleidoscope necklace I spotted on Emerging Thoughts is perfect! On top of being a fully functional kaleidoscope (how cool is that?!) it is beautiful on the outside too, and has an opal set into it, which is also my birthstone, isn't is amazing?

When I stumbled across these illustrations, I thought they were from the 70's, but they're actually much more recent, and beautifully created by Yoko Tanji, who live in Tokyo, Japan. There are so many gorgeous colours and kitties, I've selected a few of my favourites.

I love this quilt designed by Beci Orpin at Urban Outfitters. The colours, pattern and stitching are really sweet and the secret polka dot lining is so cute. I love having secret lining inside bedding, coats, shoes... anything really.

Finally, I spotted this mushroom growing kit some time ago and forgot about it. It popped up on my radar again this week, so I thought I should share! I don't have a huge garden and probably not the right conditions for growing most mushrooms, so this is a great idea. I love how the mushrooms sprout out of the box as well, they look great (and I bet they taste great!) Small piece of trivia for the day: I hated mushrooms with a passion (eating them) until about 5 years ago. Suddenly, they're delicious. It's always weird when your taste suddenly matures to accept something you previously disliked.

It's been awhile since I did a blog post of the week, I'll do my best to keep it as a regular feature. This week, I thoroughly enjoyed this post by Miss Moss. Her feature on Nicola Odemann's photography reminded me that when I go on holiday this time, I'm going to make every effort to take some snapshots, but also some more composed, thought out images as well. These photographs are beautiful, you should visit Miss Moss to see them all.
