Japan Update #2 - Typhoon in Tokyo

You may have heard that Japan was hit by a typhoon this week. Luckily here in Tokyo, we didn't witness any major incidents, however the evening before we were wandering around Shibuya searching for a restaurant and let's just say, things got a little damp. Perhaps typhoon time isn't the best time for a stroll, but you live and learn, right? I survived my first typhoon and got some nice pictures in the process. C took all of the night-time shots, I couldn't even think of my camera while struggling with my umbrella and navigation device (i.e. my phone, which I discovered now has google maps even without WiFi - score!!)

We ate at Nagi Shokudo, which was worth the struggle in the rain! This vegan restaurant has great reviews online and they don't lie. We ate the Curry Special, which was an Indian curry set with some delicious sides, and the deep fried soy meat with chilli sauce. I don't normally go for deep fried, but this was so delicious! It wasn't too greasy and boy oh boy, do the Japanese know how to make good mock-meat. I think we will go back there for lunch, when they serve the very popular ¥1,000 lunch set (around $10).

The owner even took the time to translate the menu into English for us. I don't know why I still look like I'm struggling to read it as though it's in Japanese. Ah well.

Japan Update #1

We've arrived in Tokyo! I didn't quite have it in me to write a post yesterday, we flew out of Sydney at 10.30pm and were supposed to sleep on the flight, but you know how impossible that is, right? The lovely check-in guy did seem to work some magic though and the person sitting next to us on the booking sheet was no longer there on the flight, giving C and I 3 seats between the two of us. A rare luxury! We arrived in Tokyo at 6am and struggled through the day, pretty exhausted, but wide-eyed with wonder at this place. You couldn't wipe the smile off my bleary-eyed head all day long :)

This morning we're headed out to Shibuya and maybe Harajuku, so I'll hopefully have something more interesting to tell you this evening. Just thought I'd pop in and give you an update. Oh, and,  I discovered Salt & Fruit juice. It is SO good. In the meantime, you can keep up to date with our adventures on Instagram @kittyandbuck

Tumbleweeds Handcraft make the original and the loveliest wood veneer sunglasses. Beca and Doug are not content to relax once they're onto a good thing, either. They always delight me with their constant new designs and the latest range is no exception. So many awesome colours, including some heart shaped watermelon sunglasses! I love this "Catfetti Cat Eye" style. (They also make an really cool iPhone case!)

I'll be on the look out for some more tights in Japan, they have the best variety of socks and tights over there! These tights from Unus are 'flocked' with a velvet texture, and look pretty cool.
