Guest Post: Women Who Inspire with Lemon Freckles

Today I'm so happy to share a feature that is a regular over at Lemon Freckles, Women Who Inspire. Toni is a lovely English gal, and I know you'll love her blog, so please take second and pop over to say hello. But wait, hang on! Read her post first, then say hello. OK? Here she is:

Over at Lemon Freckles I run a weekly blog post on 'Women Who Inspire', which gives me the opportunity to share about some inspirational women from around the world and also hopefully inspire some others, as well as myself.  I hope you enjoy the post and I would really love to hear your thoughts and opinions.  Happy readings!

Malala Yousafzai

I've decided to do this weeks post on someone I guess isn't classed as a woman but rather a girl, however after reading her incredible story I knew there was so much to gain from her life already, even though she is only 15 years old.
Malala Yousafzai first got the attention of the public at the tender age of eleven when she wrote a blog under a pseudonym for the BBC which detailed her life under the Taliban rule in Mingora. On her blog she shared about her fear of the Taliban but how she would not allow them to hold her back from gaining a education and wanting to become a doctor.
A year went by and the New York Times contacted her to do a documentary on her life and the effects of her school being shut down by the Taliban.  As time went on she became more and more public with various media outlets contacting her, wanting to learn more of her situation and the effects the Taliban on her and other people in her village.  Yousafzai's voice was being heard around the world and was gaining the attention as the press, as well as the Taliban. In 2011 she was even nominated for the Children's Peace Prize, which was also around the time she decided to change her career  route from being a doctor to a politician.
At 14 years old Yousafzai came up against something no one, let alone a young girl, should ever be faced with, when a masked gunman came onto her school bus and shot her in the head and neck. A Taliban spokesman confirmed that she had been a target due to her crusade for women to be allowed education and that this should be a "lesson" for others. After being in critical care for some time and being sent to the United Kingdom for intensive rehabilitation she survived and is now back where she should be, in education. Yousafzai will be turning 16 this year and what will she be doing to celebrate her birthday? She will be flying to New York, where she will be giving her first public speech at the United Nations, which I know I personally cannot wait to hear what she has to share. This beautifully courageous young woman has so much to give and I can't wait to see what an incredible impact she is going to have on this world.

Guest Post: Life, Beauty, Music with lindsey duffin

Hi there! Today I'm really pleased to introduce Lindsey, who blogs over at lindsey duffin. Lindsey is super sweet and is a musician and prolific sewer, amongst other things. Check out her guest post below, I won't ruin her introductory post by spilling too many beans. Please take a second to pop over to her blog and say hello! ~Kitty xo
Hello everyone, I am so happy to write to all of you Kitty & Buck readers! My name is Lindsey and I am a nineteen year old blogger from Texas. I wanted to share with you why I started blogging and what it means to me!
I remember going to a small town school that was filled with "clicks". There were some students who felt out of place, and I was one of them. I remember the "read aloud" assignments in class and how I would use different voices for characters, and apparently, that was sooo lame. The cool thing to do in school was slack off, not be creative, and conform to all those around you. From an early age I would get frustrated that all my friends wanted to do when we hung out was get on Myspace or watch movies, when all I wanted to do was create something.
Now, supporting myself as a full time musician, I have bright days all to myself. (I play late night gigs, so my work hours are usually from 10pm - 2am.) With all this time I get to channel my creativeness and go crazy.
In my LIFE I enjoy sewing, any DIY projects, writing music, learning about graphic design, hairstyling, painting, anything outdoors, organizing, cooking, and of course, blogging.

What I find BEAUTIFUL are people. I love when people want something and work towards goals. I love when people come together to be good to others who have seen tragedy. I find the 1950s beautiful. Polka dots, bright colors, fluffy hair, modesty, it's all pretty!
MUSIC is very special to me and has been my whole life. I love writing songs, playing in front of people, and just creating unique pieces. I play the fiddle, mandolin and I also sing. I started a YouTube channel to share with everyone (including my fiddle students) my love for music and my wide range in style! I only have one video up for now, and have lots more to come ;)

I started this blog to hopefully inspire those who don't know what their passions in life are, and those who may get bored too often. To those of you who ever felt out of place in your life, I'm right there with you! It's okay though, I believe that finding out what you love and enjoy in life is important. Since I have figured those out in my own life, I want to be able to share those things with you through my blog amidst Life, Beauty, and Music. (:

Guest Post with Magic Cat Jenny - Vlogging vs Blogging

Click on any images in this post and you'll be taken to the video they are from.
Hi, I'm Jenny and I am a blogger and I'm also a YouTuber.  Yes, one of those people unafraid to talk to a camera and who find more peace in editing a video for hours than taking a hot bath.  I open up to the world and un-anonymously share my opinions. I do random sketches and make beautiful music videos.  I collaborate with people I've never meet in person and meet people in person whom I have known online only for months. It's a strange world to those not experiencing it, but once you give it it a shot it can be amazing.

A shot from 'Don't Forget' my half of a two part story I wrote with another YouTuber.
My channel, MagicCatJenny, is a little over a year old.  I have been vlogging, however, for about three years now. The trick to understanding YouTube and the community is to become fully immersed in it.  You can't just post a video and let it be, you have to communicate with other vloggers.  Subscribe to channels, comment on their videos, and don't expect a thousand views overnight.  I have just over 700 subscribers but I worked for them and I am quite far from being 'well known'.  I create videos because I enjoy it, it's my passion, and I never do anything 'just for the views'.

In this video I am talking about a collab channel I was a part of for over a year. I show a time-laps of my experience as a part of the channel.
My channel is not too specific in content.  I do vlogs (video blogs) where I talk to the camera directly and ask questions or talk about whatever I feel like.  They are a bit silly and I love experimenting with different editing tricks.  I know a lot of local bands and sometimes I make music videos to their songs for fun.  Other times they'll commission me to make an official music video for them.  I also have been posting episodes from the series I directed, edited, and co-wrote in college.  It's a spoof reality show called LMU's Next Top Ridicously Good-Looking Person.

A photoshoot scene from LMU's Next Top Ridicously Good-Looking Person.
So take a look at my channel and subscribe if you are intrigued.  Also, if you are new to YouTube and are looking to start a channel, let me know! I can answer questions and help you out. Lots of bloggers use YouTube and Vimo interchangeably but they are both very different. YouTube is where you want to be if you are looking for more than just a video hosting service.  Good luck!

Thanks for sharing your vlogging experiences Jenny! Personally I quite enjoy watching bloggers vlog, it's always fun to see someone's body language and hear their voice when you're so used to just reading their words on a screen. What do you guys think?

Guest Post with The Vagabond Studio - Peace

photo 99f88c5c-67ad-4a2f-9e04-7651827994ef_zpsd9bf7802.jpg Hello, Kitty and Buck readers! My name is Shai and I blog over at The Vagabond Studio. Today, I want to talk to you about something on which I think we can all agree: Peace. See, I’m a Political and Social Philosophy major, and a Peace Studies minor. I get to take awesome classes like ‘Peace and Human Rights,’ ‘Peace Movements,’ and ‘Peace and Religion.’ Peace is just...sort of my thing.

You know what people who love peace generally do? They talk about it, like I am doing with you here today. They go to rallies and pressure the government to change positions on war and nuclear weapons. They give lectures on the environment, or religious globalism. They become activists. Me, though? I’m a little scaredy-cat. I can write papers and essays all day long, but actually getting in front of people and staking my claim in the matter? I’d pass out first.

Over the last couple of months, though, something in me just ‘clicked’. The lion in me has started to peek out and I’ve come to the realization that I have things I want to share with the world and causes I want to support. I’ve come to terms with the fact that I am an intelligent, capable person with a sound voice and keeping my mouth shut is doing a disservice to the people I could be helping. I can speak publicly. Since making that decision, I received the news that I am one of twenty-five people accepted into the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation’s Peace Leadership Workshop this summer. One of Twenty-Five!! In the whole world!! Talk about a kick-in-the-pants ‘You have to do this!’ moment. It’s basically a week of peace leadership training with one of my peace-related heroes - a dream come true. Even better, he is personally training us, and will teach us to speak publicly!!

I will spend seven days in Santa Barbara learning how to put my dreams into motion. Just receiving this news has lit a fire under me - I’m speaking in class more often, presenting ideas to professors, and am even helping with student workshops next month. I realized that I have a voice, and I will use it without fear. So, this summer I will be traveling from Atlanta to Santa Barbara to attend the week-long NAPF Peace Leadership Workshop, and I need your help getting there! I have awesome perks in my fundraiser just for bloggers because, you know, bloggers rock my socks. I want to help the water crisis. I want to help end war. I want to spread equality, love and compassion across the world. And, you know what? I know you do, too, in some way or form. Will you help me face my fear, reach my goal, and spread peace? You can either donate (every little dollar helps!) or tweet and share my fundraiser with your friends!

Thank you so much for sharing your journey Shai, it's so inspiring to see someone following their dreams, especially when they dream of making the world a better place! If anyone would like to find out more, head on over to The Vagabond Studio, or the fundraising page. There are some rewards especially for bloggers, so you should take a look if you're thinking of supporting, you could also land some bloggy benefits for yourself :)

Guest Post with Chestnut Mocha - Popcorn Recipe x 3

Hello Kitty & Buck readers!! We're Katie and Ben, we blog over at Chestnut Mocha. Today we decided to share with you some home-made popcorn recipes. First, the story behind it!  Last summer we moved from Russia to Idaho because Ben got a new job here. Now we live in a small town surrounded by the mountains and a big lake. Our best friends in town are Ben's parents. We come to each other's houses for dinners every once in awhile and watch movies together. We have a funny tradition of bringing "a simple gift" every time we go to visit them. It could be anything: a branch of the fur tree from our front yard, today's newspaper, ice cream, something else we found on our way or in a store...  Sometimes we make popcorn!  Here are a few of our favorite recipes:

Ingredients:
16 cups popped popcorn
4 oz white chocolate baking bar
6 oz white chocolate chips
1 drop pink food coloring
Using a double boiler (or something that works the same way), melt the chocolate. Add 1 drop of food coloring and mix through. Pour the chocolate over the popcorn and mix it through. Set aside until chocolate sets and serve.

Ingredients:
16 cups popped popcorn
1 1/2 cups dry-roasted peanuts
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup honey
1/2 cup corn syrup
1 cup peanut butter
1 teaspoon vanilla
Combine sugar, honey and corn syrup. Bring the mixture to a boil and stir constantly. Do not boil too long or your popcorn will be rock hard. Remove from heat. Stir in peanut butter and vanilla. Immediately pour over popcorn, mixed with peanuts, and stir to coat. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Ingredients:
16 cups popped popcorn
2 tbsp. butter, melted
2 tbsp. honey
sea salt to taste
Melt the butter. Add in honey and stir until combined. Add a couple dashes of sea salt. Pour over freshly made popcorn. Stir well. Taste and add more salt if needed.

We hope you enjoy these! Come check out our blog for more recipes and fun! Katie&Ben

Wow, thanks Katie & Ben, those popcorn recipes look amazing! I've been doing it wrong all this time, I usually go for the plain salted and buttered variety. I'm definitely going to give these a try next time I snuggle under a blanket with a movie.

Please take a minute to visit Chestnut Mocha, it's full of lovely pictures, adventures in Idaho (and beyond), lomography and more. If you head over soon, you could also enter their "Share The Love" giveaway, which is a pretty impressive haul with a bunch of prizes, worth $300.

Guest Post with Jessie from My Mod Style - Chickpea Tacos Recipe

Hello Kitty & Buck readers!! My name is Jessie and I blog over at My Mod Style. One of my favorite things to share on my blog is vegan recipes. I thought I would share one of my favorite meals with you. Since I'm vegan I often get asked, "What do you eat????" I eat all kinds of fun plant based meals that are very healthy and delicious. One of my favorites is Chickpea Tacos. We eat this meal almost weekly because we love it so much. Plus it's super easy to make. If you love guacamole like I do, this meal is for you!

Recipe Chickpea Tacos1

This recipe was adapted from a recipe by Lindsay Nixon. She makes all kinds of great plant based meals. Our food choices are heavily influenced by her cookbooks. We try to use as many organic foods as we can while cooking. We also do not eat foods that have added oils or have very little.

INGREDIENTS FOR CHICKPEA TACOS:
2 cans of Chickpeas, rinsed and drained
2 tbsp Liquid Aminos
(If you can't find Aminos, you can substitute Soy Sauce)
4 tsp Lime Juice
4 tbsp Taco Seasoning, use this recipe to make your own
Tortillas - we use these, sprout wheat and good for you! No added oils.
Kale, you could use any lettuce or greens

Preheat oven to 400 degrees
Recipe Chickpea Tacos2
Recipe Chickpea Tacos3
Recipe Chickpea Tacos4
Recipe Chickpea Tacos5
Recipe ChickpeaTacos6

So what do you think? Easy, right? They are so yummy! I love them! I hope that you will try them. If you do please let me know. I like simple meals that can easily be changed to how you like them. You can add whatever toppings you like and use whatever taco shells you want. This is just how we eat them. As far as the guacamole goes, my husband always makes it. He only uses lime juice and garlic salt. He just does it to taste. I hope you enjoyed my recipe post! I do have more on my blog if you are interested. You can view them HERE.
Thanks Kitty for having me!
Thanks so much for sharing this recipe Jessie! I actually made this for my dinner (and lunch) this week and I can confirm it's deliciousness! I'll definitely be making it again. You should give it a go, you won't be disappointed. And please head over to Jessie's blog and say hi as well, she's a great blogger and an all-around nice gal! I know she will welcome you with open arms :)

Guest Post with Kristina - Vegetarian Abroad - Beatles Collection

Today I'm really happy to have Kristina from Vegetarian Abroad here to guest post :) She is sharing her awesome Beatles collection with us today, The Beatles was one of the very first bands who I heard from my dad's music collection, they have a special place in my heart :)
I went over a few options in my head for this post to which I finally settled on my crazy Beatles collection.  2 things people always know about me are: she's a vegetarian and she is in love with The Beatles.  If you walk into my apartment it is a shrine to them and I thought what better way to show my love/obsession with them then in this post!  It all started with Paul McCartney; as I think it generally does with most girls ;).  I became obsessed with anything that had their name on it and immediately had to have it.  I would read for hours about the lives they lived with all of it tragedies, happiness, sadness and triumph.  Plus, when I found out Paul is a vegetarian like me it made me look up to and admire him even more.  Call me the crazy Beatles lady, nice to meet you!
My collection has grown rapidly over the past year with 20+ items now at my disposal.  It all started with the abstract painting above that I randomly ran across in Zellers (it is a store found only in Canada).  After that I was hooked and needed to have more.  I now have books, magazines, pictures, posters, DVD's, shirts and it is constantly being added to.  Most of my collection comes from BC, Canada.  It's normal to have an obsession this strong, right?  Right?!  I hope you enjoy my Beatles collection just the same and thanks for having me, Shell!
Kristina, thanks so much for sharing your collection today!

You should head over and say hi to Kristina, she blogs about beauty, living as a Canadian in America and Vegetarianism amongst other things, I'm sure you'll get along just fine :)

Guest Post with Praew - Thai-Japanese Fusion Restaurant

Yura An Japanese Fusion Restaurant at Central World, Bangkok
Hello Kitty & Buck readers!
I am Praew from Praew Channel. I am glad that I have a chance to do a guest post here again. This is actually my third time writing a guest post for Kitty & Buck. I have already done a diy post and an outfit post. This time I would like to share some experience that I had when exploring Thai-Japanese fusion food at Yura-An Restaurant in Bangkok.

My sister, Ploen, talks about this restaurant quiet often when she has to give a list of restaurant that she suggests to her friends. Personally, my husband and I love Japanese Food. However, we often go for authentic Japanese food rather than the fusion Japanese. However, This time we decided to try something out of our ordinary.  Last month, we went there for lunch.

When we walked in, we were quite pleased with the ambience that is bright with high ceiling. The interior design is sleek with a touch of Japanese which gives the cozy feeling to the modern vibe.

Let's take a look at what we ordered!
Yura An Japanese Fusion Restaurant at Central World, Bangkok
Among the fancy rolls that we skimmed through the menu, we decided to order spider roll. This roll consists of deep-fried soft shell crab, avocado, cucumber and mayonaise. This roll has been my favorite since I was in college so I couldn't help but order this roll. Spider roll is actually a popular roll in many Japanese restaurants in many countries so many of you might have tried this dish already. What I love about this dish is the combination of the soft shell crab and the avocado. At Yura-An restaurant, they made a very good spider roll because their deep-fried soft shell crab is so crispy!
Yura An Japanese Fusion Restaurant at Central World, Bangkok
The next dish is tuna tartar with avocado served with nori, lime and chilli. This is definitely not an ordinary tuna tartar. After tasting the tuna tartar,I guess they mix the tuna cubes with Japanese soy sauce and wasabi with a dash of sesame oil.  You might wonder how should we eat it. You should wrap the tuna tartar with the nori and add Thai chilli and a dash of lime juice....Voila! This is another dish that we will definitely try to make at home. This is a very unique fusion dish with the combination of Thai and Japanese flavors. I think it will be great party food.
Yura An Japanese Fusion Restaurant at Central World, Bangkok
Tuna cutlet with wasabi sauce is the menu that my husband and I were both agreed that we would like to tried this recipe at home. We both love seared tuna with Japanese soy sauce. This dish takes a little step further from what we usually do.  After seeing this dish, I think it is a great idea to coat the tuna with the bread crumbs instead of simply sear the tuna. And the wasabi-mayonnaise sauce was definitely complement the tuna cutlet.
Yura An Japanese Fusion Restaurant at Central World, Bangkok
Chirashi (Assorted sashimi on rice) is not a fusion dish but it is on of my favorite dishes that I usually order every time I dine at Japanese restaurants. Yummy!
It was such a fun time as I discovered more ways to play with food. After a great meal at Yura An, we were so full and ready for an afternoon nap. Unfortunately, I had so many things to do so I finished off that meal with a cup of black tea in order to stay awake. :p
Restaurant Info
Name: Yura An
Cusine: Japanese Fusion

I hope you enjoy my post. And I hope you find the cooking ideas from this post useful.
Thanks Shell for the opportunity to write this post.

Praew

Thanks Praew for another lovely guest post, it's so fun taking a peek into someone else's life. I think my favourite Japanese food is Gyoza, I just love dumplings... or maybe Apple Sake ;)

Guest Post from Share The Love - Dog Rescue

Today I have a really special post from Stephanie, who blogs over at Share The Love. She has a special passion for helping animals in need, and today she's going to tell you how she got involved with dog rescue.
How we got involved in dog rescue
My first experience with animal rescue was in January 2008.  At the time, I had no idea there was such a thing as animal rescue.  I was a busy young single parent at the time (hadn’t met my husband yet), working full-time and living in a small rented condo apartment.  One of the first things I noticed when I moved to the area with my son was this beautiful grey cat hanging out on the front steps.  The landlord informed me that the cat didn’t have a home and had become the neighbourhood’s cat.  He would visit everyone’s condo and people would feed him.  He seemed quite content with his life.  One neighbour named him “Sam” and the name stuck, we all knew him as Sam the cat.

One very cold January evening, Sam showed up at my doorstep as usual, except this time, something was wrong.  His face looked deformed and his jaw was hanging on the side.  (My first thought was that he had been hit by a car, but we later found out from a vet that Sam had mostly likely been kicked in the face.)  I brought him in.  It wasn’t the first time he came in for a visit, but it was the first time I didn’t let him leave, and he didn’t like that.  He was obviously in pain and felt threatened by my resident cats.  He peed on the carpet.  He cried to go back outside.  I felt as trapped as him.  I started calling around to different animal shelters.  When I explained the situation, each shelter told me that Sam would be put down immediately because of the damage to his jaw.  I was devastated.

I did what any desperate animal lover would do.  I prayed.  And cried.  And made frantic telephone calls.  Finally, someone gave me the name of a lady who rescued cats in our area.  I felt like this was my last chance.  My last chance to help save Sam.  I called and there was no answer.  So I tried leaving a voicemail but mid-way through my message trying to explain that Sam was a beautiful happy cat that somehow got his jaw broken, I couldn’t talk anymore because of how much I was crying. I had to call three times to get the whole story out.  Finally, I received a call back.  She said “Welcome to the world of rescue.”

Long story short, Sam got surgery, his jaw was fixed, and he was adopted into a loving home.
Forward a few years, I am now living with my fiancé.  He comes home one day telling me he saw this very skinny cat crying outside at the local corner store.  Within an hour, we were back at the store, and there’s this sickly thin cat crying out for help to anyone who would have enough compassion to notice him.  We brought him home, gave him food, water, and a warm bed.  The next day we brought him to the vet and had him checked and vaccinated.  We named him Louis.  He was graciously welcomed into a local cat Sanctuary where he spent the few months of life he had left.  He later passed away from frail health (FIV and FIP), but we are thankful that he enjoyed a loving home during his last months on earth.
After these experiences, we felt compelled to help out.  In a way, we felt this was “our calling”.  I mean, everyone has a preferred cause to which they provide time and energy; some people volunteer for their local sports team, some get involved in raising money for cancer research, others spend their lives raising loving kids.

We chose to get involved in animal rescue.

More specifically, we got involved in dog rescue and in the last two years have fostered dogs in need, welcoming them into our home and taking care of them until they are adopted.  Since 2010, we have fostered 10 dogs.

A few of the dogs we’ve fostered.
Lulu (rescued from a puppy mill)
Monty (rescued from death row in a shelter)
Wilson (stray)
Clyde (stray)
Most people ask us “how do you let them go?”  Well, I asked myself the same question before we started fostering.  It’s simple.  You keep focused on your goal: giving the animal a better life for the sake of reducing suffering.  I’m assuming this goal is similar to anyone who works for a cause.  We do it to reduce suffering and to increase joy in the world.  The reward is that we also increase joy in our own lives.
Thank you so much for sharing your lovely story Stephanie, I hope you've inspired some others to consider animal rescue and adoption. If you haven't already, check out Stephanie's blog, aside from her critter adventures, she has a great "Vegan Tuesday" segment with lots of yummy recipes, as well as sharing pretty and inspiring snippets of her life, I know you'll enjoy it!

Photography with Toy Cameras - Guest Post from Ruzu

Hi Kitty and Buck followers, it is such an honor to be in this lovely blog that I enjoy to follow, read and sponsor, I am Ruzu from Princess Corner and today I want to share with you my last interest: Photography with toy cameras.

I am an owner of a Mini Diana, a camera that I got last year for my Birthday, it's very cute and small, so it's easy to carry in your handbag. This is the package I recieved.

My problem with this type of cameras is that in my country the shops of film developing don´t have a good equipment with the size of the frame of the mini diana, was a big problem for me to get my photos, that´s why I don´t have all of them, I need a different size, maybe a pretty Holga.

Despite this problem, I have on my mind a dream to own more of these fellows, here is my current wishlist.

Links: 1,2,3,4

I am planning to continue with the mini Diana, I love it and I don´t care about the issue above. So what do you think about the lomography and toy cameras? It's a great area of photography if you ask me, it's important to learn the past of this art, and it's fun, there are people who don´t need to go to University to learn, it's very simple, but if you are an artist you should know how to work better to explode your creativity.

The most great advice for everyone (including me) is to take your toy camera and go out, you can practice with everything, and someday take photos such like Rhianne does, she is incredible.

Thank you for reading this small contribution, I hope you like it and thanks Kitty for this opportunity. If you are so kind, you can follow my adventures on my blog.

xo
Ruzu.

Thanks for sharing these cameras Ruzu, I love photographing with film and I own many film cameras myself. Ruzu blogs from her home in El Salvador about photography, fashion, DIY and other lovely things, you should head over and say hello :)
