The New York State adventure continues, our next stop was a small town called Dolgeville. Driving through the Catskills was such a lovely experience, it's such a beautiful place! We stopped at Woodstock NY in a futile attempt to find C. some new boots as his had suffered during the patchy snow hike in Montana. Alas, no boots and I wasn't really feeling the vibe so we left... I'd read about Beardslee Castle, which is just down the road from Dolgeville, and I was hoping we could have dinner in the dungeon there, but they were closed on the night we visited. We did get some nice pictures, I would love to see it in the snow! There's something about old stone buildings in the snow!
We stayed in a beautiful old house in Dolgeville which had it's very own pond. And across the road was an awesome huge boarded up house. We had the whole place to ourselves so we explored the house, with all of it's wonderful old books and antique furniture. I tried on the lovely old hat we found in our bedroom. There was a stereo photo viewer on the piano with a bunch of old photos to look at as well. We ate dinner in town, and even though we traveled all through Maine, Cape Cod and even Nantucket, we ate the best crab cakes I have ever tasted, in a tiny little cafeteria style dining room attached to the pub. Another beautiful small American town.
