Photo A Day #38 River Walk

Today C and I went for a picnic down by the river near our house. Unfortunately, with all the rain over the past few... months... the tracks were a bit flooded. We crossed the causeway which was only ankle deep, but the path to the big flat rocks that you can sit in the shade by the river was blocked. There was flood debris in the trees as high as my head! (I'm about 5'9") I hadn't realised it had flooded so much down there! There were poor little dried up mussels everywhere too. We had a really nice walk anyway and had our picnic in the backyard with the cats when we got home, which was very pleasant.

Yes, that handsome gentleman is C.

Tomorrow I am heading to an antique fair, it's one I haven't been to before so not quite sure what to expect, but I'll let you know if I find any treasures. I also scored some great thrift shop bargains today, I'll do a show and tell in a couple of days! I hope you're enjoying your weekend so far!

Photo A Day #37 Scarf

I've completed the photo shoot for my Vintage Fair finds, and the post will be up in the next couple of days! I actually got a lot of bits and pieces, here's a sneaky look at my Pencil Scarf!

Found #5

When I was at the Vintage Fair last weekend, I saw this brooch in a blur as I rushed past to purchase a special ring for C. I didn't have time to get back to the Cherish stall before the fair ended, and I couldn't stop thinking about the brooch. So yesterday, I popped in to Annie's studio and bought it! It's a one of a kind and I'm the proud new owner! I got a lot of comments today when I wore it, and I'm sure you'll see it featured in an outfit post soon. Definitely the best find of the week!

How adorable are these "Meow Mitts"?! Tiny Owl Knits sells patterns so you can make them yourself, if you're in the Northern Hemisphere perhaps start now for next winter? I've only ever knitted a scarf, so not sure if these might be a tad too difficult for my second knitting project?

I'm having a really hard time picking just one thing to make attempt making from here! Everything is completely adorable! And I'm looking forward to winter wardrobe snuggle items!

This photography by Kim Høltermand is breathtakingly beautiful. I love misty nature shots though!

I love a good collection! Check out this gorgeous matchbox label collection by Shailesh Chavda. These are a couple of my favourites, though it's hard to choose!

This gorgeous Tulip Print shirt from Sake Of Shapes Vintage. I'm looking towards autumn and winter now and this is perfect!

Is this blouse TOO crazy cat lady? I'm loving it! And I'm also quite fond of the cute black bowtie as well! And the shirt has such a cute collar!

I feel like I maybe went into cute overdrive this week, but I hope you enjoy! Kitty xo

Photo A Day #36 Upstate New York Part 1

Looking through the travel pictures has me feeling so nostalgic for life on the road. I don't think I ever get homesick, even when I lived in London. My Opa always used to joke to my Oma about being a gypsy, and I think I inherited that trait! I absolutely love being on the road, and I can't think of a better life for me. (even though I look a little grumpy in the next picture, it's just how that one turned out...)

I'm going to tell you again (because I'm so proud) that I went on this trip with a carry-on bag only. I'll probably be wearing the exact same thing for the next couple of states' pictures because it was too cold not to wear everything that I bought... And I kinda didn't want to buy coats and stuff to carry around to the hot, sticky south!)

We were a bit late arriving at our destination after a bit of a delay with our hire car and an altercation with Wal-Mart customers. We were actually followed around the store by a lady proclaiming to C. that "That's not howya wear a suit, boy!" Which was funny the first 6 times she said it. "You want a suit to make you bigger!"... "It's a vintage 60's suit lady"... "That's not howya wear a suit"... "OK..."
Aaaanyway.... So it was dark when we arrived at our hotel and we made a suitably B-Movie looking entrance. And then found some B-Movies (And some A-grade too!) to watch. After being hopped up on Grizzly stories in Montana, I was completely paranoid about bears in the woods and when I heard rummaging noises outside beyond the porch light... I locked the door...

We watched "Don't Go In The Woods" and then slept soundly in the gorgeous bed. (Until the air raid sirens went off at about 3am - an American way of calling volunteer firefighters apparently) The decor in this place was amazing, mostly authentic 1950's pieces. It was such an experience. In case you're wondering, it's Kate's Lazy Meadow, Mt Tremper NY. And it's right by Phoenicia, which is one of the greatest little towns I visited! Full of lovely people who were into musical theatre!

Rock Lobster!

Photo A Day #35 Niagara Falls Part 2

Here's part 2 of the Niagara Falls adventure. You can read more about it in Part 1! We had some quarters left over from the border crossing, so we decided to have a go at the special binoculars... They're ok... I mean... The Falls are pretty big right? You don't exactly need binoculars to see them. But I got a few peeks at some birds and tour boats and stuff, so it was definitely worth the quarter.

We decided to walk across the border to the USA, which was fun! Until I had to go through immigration. C. is American so he was welcomed into Buffalo with open arms. I, on the other hand, was interrogated by what I would suppose was an ex-military (or wannabe military) immigration officer for around half an hour! I was asked such interesting questions as "And just how are you paying for this trip?"... Uh, I have a job, and I saved my pennies until I could afford to go on a holiday. "And why is your flight from New Orleans? How are you getting there?" ... Driving... "That's a long way to drive" ... yep! "Why were you working in Canada?" I wasn't, I was only there for 12 hours... "Why?" To see the Falls from the good side?

Oh boy... Needless to say, I was almost in tears by the end of it, but eventually was allowed in to spend my hard earned dollars on helping out the US economy. Phew...

Lunch break in Chinatown. Waiting for my vegetarian dumplings to cook. Time to contemplate the clouds. A lovely Autumn day.

Photo A Day #33 Niagara Falls Part 1

Today I'm posting some more travel images. After leaving Bozeman, we flew to Toronto, and then caught a bus to Niagara Falls. I just had some documents to take care of on Canadian soil, and so my first ever trip to Canada was brief, and hopefully a prelude to a much longer one in the future! So I had to do the typical tourist thing and see the falls... from the GOOD side!! I have no idea why, but I was not prepared for the main street of Niagara Falls. I did grow up on a diet of Degrassi Junior High, and for some reason, I thought the most outlandish thing in Canada was Spike's hair. Boy was I wrong! The first thing I was confronted with was FUDGE. I have never seen fudge declared so boldly before!

After Fudge, there is me contemplating the Falls (photo by C.),
C contemplating the falls, reflected in a puddle,
and the Great Canadian Midway.

I love the fact that Canada can be just as tacky as any tacky tourist place in the world! Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against tacky, it was just unexpected! I had a great time gawking at all the amazing neon signs, and jogging on the spot trying to keep warm in my clothes I packed for summer in New Orleans! I ate some fudge, of course, and played a couple of rounds of ski-ball and whack-a-mole just to get into the spirit of things. I'll post part 2 of my Canadian adventure soon.

Have you guys ever got the complete wrong idea about a place from television or movies? Come on... you can tell me :)

Kitty xo

Disclaimer: I am a little sarcastic in the above post, forgive me. I do understand Canadians aren't all the same as Degrassi characters. And I know there is more to Canada than Niagara Falls. I can't wait to do a proper visit soon :)

What I Watched - 2 One Another

I recently went to see the latest production from Sydney Dance Company, 2 One Another. I got special discount tickets for being a student, which always sweetens the deal! I did a little write up here.

I just came across these amazing photographs of the show by Justin Ridler, you can check out the series on the tumblr page of Sydney Dance Company, with lots of behind the scenes shots.

Photo A Day #32 - Vintage Fair Day

Today I went along to the Love Vintage show in Sydney with my friend Laura. We had such an amazing time! I think the latter half of the day was spent in a semi-stunned silence as we found so many amazing things and it was becoming hard to be selective! After many incredible lurex and 70's maxi-dress finds, we did end up with some goodies to take home. But I'll save that for another post, as I think my vintage treasures deserve one to themselves! Here's a sneak peek of some of the goodies on show...

Photo A Day #31 - Caturday

Today I was working hard on my first DIY for Kitty and Buck, when the coffee shop beckoned. I left all of my work in a neat pile, with the booklet on top so as not to tempt any errant kitties. I really should know better. The first thing I saw when I returned home is pictured below.

I'm not sure if you can tell, but Nico (that black one) actually has pieces of fabric STUCK TO HER FACE! They are so naughty... But you can't stay mad for long, when they look at you with such cute, defiant naughtiness...

I think Maggie is daring me to try and be mad at her

Can you see Nico's fabric stash?

And Hobbes is asleep on the job (again)

Look out for my pin cushion tutorial coming this week!

Found #4

I've decided to move Found to Fridays! So now you know each week there will be Found on Friday, enjoy!

These 1950's cups and saucers are so amazing! But sold :(

I'm getting the electrics done in the music studio soon, need a light. I either want an old crystal chandelier or one of these sweet old school Edison bulbs (or maybe a few!)

These shoes from Modcloth! Elycia wore them this week AND I saw a another girl wearing them when I went to the Sydney Opera House to see "This is our Youth". (I have new-found respect for Michael Cera's acting skills. He's good!)  Just to rub it in that they are sold out in my size!
via: Modcloth

And finally, the boy sent me this blog today, how wonderful! It put a smile on my face all day. I love old pictures, books and kitties, so this is pretty much perfect! This is Jean Cocteau, he looks quite proud of his feline friend and determined to show him (?) off! It's one of my favourites!

“I love cats because I enjoy my home; and little by little, they become its visible soul.”

Photo A Day #30 Coming Up Roses

The sun was out today, and I had a lovely lunch outdoors, catching some Vitamin D! I watched the sky turn a beautiful peachy colour after I took my photo of the day. Then I ordered pizza and had a night off from cooking. The grass is freshly cut and I have crisp, clean sheets on my bed! A good start to the weekend :)

I've been working a lot in the past few weeks, and finally have a weekend free to myself! I'm planning on doing some design work on my blog, I need to get ahead on it so it is a bit more user friendly and not just thrown together as it is now! It's definitely a work in progress! I will be making some little treats in preparation for opening my etsy store! On Sunday, I am heading to a big vintage fair, I can't wait to see what treasures I'll find!

Here's a fun shot of Nico and I having an intense conversation about her day at work (she works in the backyard most days, for many hours. She's always doing overtime and not getting paid, but she does it for the love) What have you guys got planned for the weekend?

Photo A Day #29 - Bozeman Montana Part 3

Finally, another first before I left for Canada, my first ever s'more. The girls in the supermarket were beside themselves when they said, "oh... you're making s'mores" and I replied that it was going to be my first ever s'more. They were so excited and a little dubious that we don't have s'mores in Australia. I cooked them in the wood stove in the garden, and they were delicious!

A Chandelier in The Ellen Theatre. So beautiful. I have no idea how I held the camera still enough to catch this one!

We went out on the town to the Ellen Theatre, which is a beautiful Art Deco era theatre. On the way home, we spotted some people having an amazing time at the end of a party, dancing up a storm to some 80's tunes.

I'll do some more posts on our trip, the next stop was Niagara Falls, then on to New York State, Vermont, New Hampshire, Maine and all the way down to Philadelphia, Virginia, the Appalachian Trail, back out to the coast for Charleston, Savannah, Miami, up to Alabama, and then over to New Orleans. We then flew to Tucson so I could see where the boy came from for the first time. I'm planning another trip for the fall this year, not 100% sure where we are going yet, but most definitely through 'the middle' of the US, as I have done the West coast (LA to Seattle) and the East Coast now. Thinking of driving from Texas to Ohio, and then over to New Hampshire to stay in blissful isolation and watch the leaves!

Photo A Day #27 Cactus and Me

Here's another from my trip. Taken by the boy in Tucson (in case you couldn't tell from the Cactii everywhere!) It was HOT! duh, it's the desert, and I'm from Australia, but wow. Hot. It's actually nice though because I'm used to sticky humid heat which is awful. The dry desert heat is much better. A bit of water and shade goes a long way.

And another first... My first 'proper' cactus. (I must be so sheltered) Just wait til you see my "first" for New Hampshire! I was beside myself with how much Tucson looks like a movie set. Perfect!

Photo A Day #26 Bozeman Montana Part 2

At the turquoise pool in Yellowstone National Park, so beautiful
Photo: C.

Photo: C.
In Montana I saw my first real-life bison. I know that they are dangerous and lots of tourists get 'got' by them each year, which is why we have a very long lens on the camera! I also saw my first... chipmunk? Well, excuse my ignorance, but we don't have all these cute little critters in Australia... I THINK it's a chipmunk? Anyone?

Photo: C.

We did the tourist thing and went to Yellowstone National Park, of course. And yes, here's Old Faithful. It's not as... big... as I expected. I think some of the magic was taken away by the sheer numbers of people and the tacky gift stores surrounding it. It was pretty funny when it went off and the crowd applauded. I've never seen anyone applaud nature before!

What I Wore - Goodbye Summer

To farewell summer, I had a quiet day around the house, I needed some time to myself to finish some projects I've been working on over the past few weeks. So I pulled out a summer dress for the last time, and it was a little chilly, so I added a soft t-shirt to warm up a little. These are my first 'proper' outfit shots, I'm sure practice makes perfect!

This dress is so soft and has lots of fabric, so it's really comfy. And good for twirling :)

See how soft the t-shirt is? ll pill-y and nice...

How cute are these boots? I almost didn't buy these! So glad I did.

Everything looks cool through this camera lens! Here's a picture of Nico that I took through it today.

Photo A Day #25 Goodbye Summer

I'm not sure if it's appropriate to say goodbye to summer as she didn't really move in anyway. I think she popped in for afternoon tea and cake a couple of times, but was mostly absent during her normal visiting months. But there is a definite tinge of autumn in the air, so I'm officially saying goodbye to the summer. I did my first proper what I wore today, I'll post it all soon. Here's a sneaky peek!
